"From Up On Poppy Hill" by Gorō Miyazaki is one of my favorite movies from Studio Ghibli. It's a bit lesser known, but the story and setting really resonated with me. There's a family house in this movie that Is close to the sea and reminds me of the boat I grew up on.
Inspired by a particular scene from the film, I initially wanted to recreate this shot as a still image. However I quickly realized that it needed the sound of the environment to fully capture the feeling I wanted to communicate.
I used a combination of found sounds and my own recordings. The piano tune to complete this piece was a collaboration with my good friend Ferruccio.
